Traps for whole or chunk baits

Tuna Traps are hooks with a 12” length of cable attached to a welded ring on the other end. The cable is wrapped into a tight coil and held in place on the shank of the hook with a special band. This rig is designed for use while chunking for tuna.

Tuna being as line shy as they are will avoid any bait with a heavy leader. With tuna traps you can use light leaders or even tie them directly to your main line. The traps are meant to be hidden inside your bait. Once a fish takes the bait and starts his run, as soon as you set the hook the tension on the line will pull the cable out of the band. This leaves a 12” length of cable where its needed most. The cable has more than enough abrasion resistance than is needed to land your catch. Now you can use much lighter leaders and end up with more strikes on those days the tuna seem to be more line shy than ever. For the ultimate set-up use tuna traps with a flouro-carbon wind-on leader.
